Parkinson shows how you can go in to the board of directors and get approval for building a multi-million or even billion dollar atomic power plant, but if you want to build a bike shed you will be tangled up in endless discussions.
Most references to Parkinson’s Law play on the “work expands to use up available resources/time” but this aspect of it is just as relevant.
I have the book on order at my local library branch, so I have yet to read it. The Amazon.com reviews were quite positive.
I’d bet it would be hard to find someone who hadn’t had one of their ideas challenged by people with no interest in the matter than making sure they appear “on the record” and therefore full engaged in the topic at hand.
