quotable

I found one quote attributed to Galbraith and upon looking it up, I found this gem.

John Kenneth Galbraith – Wikiquote:

“The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.”

The quote I was looking for was:

“All successful revolutions are the kicking in of a rotten door.”

I read some of Galbraith years ago, specifically The Affluent Society. As I get older and pretend I am learning more, I realize that we have the solutions to most of mankind’s ills in our grasp but for reasons of temperament or ideology, we keep looking for more palatable, ie less inconvenient, ones.

To some extent, the Bible has a lot of the answers. I am by no stretch a religious person, but if we truly clothed the naked, fed the hungry and treated the least of our fellowmen as we would hope to treat a deity, would we not be better off as a society?
