flight school for the budget-challenged

Who doesn’t like paper airplanes, especially ones that fly really well?

OK, so these are technically paper, but are actually more like wood: you assemble your own simple laminated wood from die-cut cardstock and glue to make most of these.

They are actually a good way to learn and teach the basics of flight: the booklet that comes with the kit we have has some simple explanations of Bernoulli’s work and a lot of detail on trimming and adjusting your planes. These are not one-time throwaways: they’re competitive little things, if you care to go that far. In fact there are photos of a competition at the recently demolished Kingdome. I could see similar events being held at the old Sandpoint Naval Air Station in one of the hangars.

Recommended.
