Internet Radio is one the best things to come out of all this dotcom-packetswitched madness.
Radio Paradise and Radio Free Tiny Pineapple are both great outlets for good music, regardless of genre, sales potential or payola.
I’m delighted to see a great track like the one linked to playing: the new Indigo Girls CD has been in heavy rotation with the new Elvis Costello.
This is radio at its most pure: commercial-free, listener-supported, and format-free. As I mentioned in an earlier posting, formats are all about targeting a market segment, but age, sex, income level, whathaveyou. Music outlets like these play whatever the programmer/DJ likes, as if you were being guided through their music collection. I can remember over the air stations where that was the standard practice: what passes for progress isn’t always an improvement.
