Enjoy.
Alternate treatment of this idea:
Look through the markers for young men about the same age as those at the CR meeting, and introduce the CRs to those young men and their stories with voiceover of the conversation as the marker stays on screen. Ask them why that boy should have fought and died when so many who support the war refuse to take up the fight.
Discussion questions:
- Why do you suppose these young men and women can support a war that threatens to the fight for survival of civilization but won’t actually fight in it?
- Do you think their parents served in any branch of the service? (Assuming an average age of 20, their parents would be too young to have fought in Vietnam, so a peacetime stint would be possible.)
- Do you think they have registered with Selective Service?
- What do you think their reaction would be if conscription were re-instated?
- Enlist to ensure a preferred assignment
- Apply for deferment
- Wait and see if their number comes up
- Emigrate
- Do you think there is anything that could make these young people take their responsibilities seriously?
