things that start with a V

  • V for Vendetta I picked this up this week and was blown away. The writing is intense and prescient, well-informed, and really tightly-paced. The edition I read is a lightweight newsprint edition, and I suspect there are better versions available. But the story is good no matter what it appears on.
  • Vicodin. (sorry, no link: don’t think Amazon sells it — yet). I took a spill this morning in front of my house. Going to look for some fresh strawberries, I stepped on a round rock and one foot went out from under me, dropping me on one knee into some fresh gravel. Dirt, gravel, blood, what a mess. It looked like 50¢ hamburger for a while there. (Debridement is the word of the day. I don’t think I need this, though.) I have spent a lot of time today cleaning it out and dressing it with various antibacterial unguents. Took me a while to realize the pain was not from the surface wounds but from the bones. So a trip to my emergency pharmaceutical reserve and life is, once again, good.

So how’s your summer going?
