Edward Weston and Tina Modotti:
There’s plenty of precedent in the world of art, and photography especially it seems, of muse and master often trading roles – Steiglitz and O’Keefe come to mind. And there are several images in this exhibition of Edward Weston and Tina Modotti that bring them to mind – nudes, flowers, austere portraits. In this case Modotti, instead of being a painter, takes up the same artistic interest as her lover and teacher, friend and travelling companion, photographer Edward Weston.
I am just reading the Daybooks of Edward Weston where an expurgated version of this period is chronicled.
And there’s an interactive show here.
