National Novel Writing Month – NaNoWriMo Wordcount:
Your current Word Count is 46015.
Once the fog clears, I may know what this thing is all about.
So a few reflections on NaNoWriMo.
I could liken it to a marathon if I were in any shape to have done one. But I have done some endurance events in my distant past and that’s what this is: a mental marathon.
To write to a set length everyday for 30 days is a lot harder than it sounds. Some people obviously find it easier than I have: some of the winners — winning means getting 50,000 words down — have in excess of 100,000 words already, and I can’t even imagine the typing speed that requires, let alone the imagination. The bulk of the 241587 characters so far have been typed with just two fingers. (I have mastered using my thumb for spaces but on this little keyboard two fingers do most of the work just fine.)
I recommend it, though. I think it’s good experience if you’ve had delusions of making a living with your pen. Sitting down and making stuff up at great length is hard work, and trying to figure out a narrative arc for it adds some complexity.
I plan to post the whole mess when it’s done, perhaps in installments, perhaps in toto. Hmm, makes sense to do both, installments first then a zip file at the end, maybe?
My Flesch-Kincaid score shows my writing at 1% easier than the average writing on the internets. I guess that’s good, though I’m advised to change a lot of words for easier to grok synonyms.
According to this, I am a bit foggy, with 5338 unique words, only some of which are made up.
FOG: 10.10
FLESCH: 69.66
