new frontiers in dental aesthetics

One year on, I finally have what looks like a full set of choppers. My titanium implant, replacing the root of number 9 tooth, is healed enough to take an abutment and crown, so I spent two hours in the chair getting that sorted out.

First, the existing crown on number 8 had to be cut off, as it needed replacement. Then some refinement and shaping, followed by some impressions for the final porcelain and metal crowns.

Finally, two replacement teeth were fashioned on the spot from some kind of plastic compound, and attached to the remaining tooth and a temporary abutment.

It feels strange but good to have teeth in there again. If the permanents are half as well made as these temporaries, I’ll be pleased. At US$1,600 per, to say nothing of the extraction and implant — done by another specialist — I had better be pleased.

And the doc is so pleased with his new office and his new tools — rightly so, as it’s quite nicely fitted out — he sent me home with my own copy of my Panarex X-ray, a 360° view of my jaws. I don’t plan on sharing it 😉
