you couldn’t make this stuff up

Some ideas are crystallizing around an idea for a novel, a movie, everything but a cereal box. It’s probably been done, but I haven’t read it.

There has been a lot of notice taken of the homo-erotic nature of the president’s cult of personality. Many of his most vocal admirers are still swooning over his appearance in a flight suit on the deck of the Abraham Lincoln. And at the same time there this homo-phobia, this Fear of Teh Gay that rings a little hollow.

Leaven that with a generous helping of a virgin/whore conflict, where only pubescent girls are considered attractive, and adult women (those who may have successfully consummated a physical relationship) are by definition harlots.

So you have a power elite of repressed men who can’t have relations with adult women (because they’re impure and sullied) but who aren’t comfortable with any other feelings they have (‘cuz they’re wrong wrong wrong). These men spend a lot of time together being unhappy and frustrated.

The women are bored and frustrated also, the young desirable ones (who feel no attraction for men whose only professions of love are for other men) and the older (I mean 18 and up) who are pampered, unwillingly or not, put on pedestals, and generally treated like fragile objects, rather than people, let alone equals.

Somewhere in this are men who are not among the elect who are kept away from everyone else, perhaps in work camps or in military adventures. By definition, they are not powerful. The elites fear them, as they seem in them what they are missing in themselves. The women (no women are admitted to the elite, though some have influence there: those boys have moms, after all) are curious and wonder if they would be better off being equals of these less privileged types than as objects on a shelf.
