can you tell what this is? Shawn Shawhan of Seattle took this photo of a log covered with hoarfrost on the Necklace Valley trail, just past Skykomish. The temperature was 29 degrees at the time. He writes: “This hoarfrost was most likely formed when steam from the water-soaked log was escaping overnight, and then freezing in the cold air. I have never seen such a sight before.”
