Safari offers you a superior Web experience with outstanding performance. Even the most complex of pages load at breakneck speed. In fact, Safari loads pages more quickly than any other Mac Web browser. But that?s not all. Safari uses the advanced interface technologies underlying Mac OS X to offer you an all-new view of the Web, one that?s much easier to use.
why is this based on Konqueror, rather than Gecko?
And without tabbed browsing, it’s a non-starter.
I have taken a look at Safari a little more. My opinion on the lack of tabbed browsing hasn’t changed, but I do like some things about it. The ability to block popup windows is easy to find. The location bar’s color reflects the progress of the page being loaded: clever and intuitive.
It is small, a fraction the size of Chimera/Navigator. I’ve not done any torture testing to see what pages break it. I didn’t get my MovableType bookmarklet to work so I’ll need to look at that.
So this is based on KDE’s Konqueror rather than Gecko. It’s interesting for a couple of reasons. 1, where does that leave Chimera? Apple will be bundling Safari in later releases, and as MSFT has shown us, people tend to stay with what they find installed. 2. Why is Safari so much better behaved than Konqueror? I’ve generally avoided using Konqueror since it’s always seemed slow and flaky. Apparently, the problems weren’t in the rendering engine.
