coincidence

Edward Weston and Tina Modotti:

There’s plenty of precedent in the world of art, and photography especially it seems, of muse and master often trading roles – Steiglitz and O’Keefe come to mind. And there are several images in this exhibition of Edward Weston and Tina Modotti that bring them to mind – nudes, flowers, austere portraits. In this case Modotti, instead of being a painter, takes up the same artistic interest as her lover and teacher, friend and travelling companion, photographer Edward Weston.

I am just reading the Daybooks of Edward Weston where an expurgated version of this period is chronicled.

And there’s an interactive show here.

ugly talk

Gosh, the filthy liberal bloggers — feminists, to boot — used some bad language in their personal weblogs and now — boo hoo — a man who has said among other things:

Hollywood is controlled by secular Jews who hate Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular. It’s not a secret, okay? And I’m not afraid to say it. … Hollywood likes anal sex. They like to see the public square without nativity scenes. I like families. I like children. They like abortions. I believe in traditional values and restraint. They believe in libertinism.

wants them fired.

And yet this guy is a regular guest when some talk show needs some manufactured outrage.

feh.

he can buy books, and he’s griping about the shipping costs for overnight shipping?

Amazon Prime Overnight Shipping Deadline is earlier .

[…] presumably having an earlier cutoff reduces their costs, and Amazon Prime shipping is reported to cost them a lot of money. But it’s a change that I’ve never seen mentioned by Amazon – I’m pretty sure the cutoff wasn’t as early as 4:30 when we signed up. And if you pay your $80 and expect the same service, you might be disappointed

never trust someone who doesn’t know what they’re selling

The myth of grass-fed beef | Gristmill: The environmental news blog | Grist:

Me: Hi, do you have any grass-fed beef?
Butcher: Hmm, grass-fed? I don’t think you can feed grass to cows.
Me: Well, they’re ruminant animals, so I think that’s what they’re supposed to eat.
Butcher: [sympathetic-but-authoritative head shake] I don’t think so. They need vitamins and minerals and stuff.
Me: Uh …
Butcher: Now this [points down at large, marbled slab in meat case], this is corn-fed beef.
Me: Yeah, well, um, thanks anyway.

The comments are hilarious.
