$54,285.71 per soldier/cop? Do we spend that much on our own?

Well, I would hope that $19B figure includes the creation of some permanent infrastructure. We can’t do an apples-to-apples comparison because U.S. training doesn’t take place in a war zone.
The expense of this war is ridiculous, in any case — not to mention the human cost.
Well, yeah, there is that police training academy that’s unfit for use (sewage running down the walls and through the floors).
The money, meh, so what. But the 3500+ American dead, the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi dead, and the destruction of America’s reputation and credibility for a generation or more — that’s something that will be hard to get back.
